Vice President, Business Development
As the Vice President of Business Development at the National Apartment Association (NAA), you will oversee the strategy and implementation of NAA’s entire business development portfolio which includes both supplier focused sales (exhibit booth sales, sponsorship opportunities, advertising) and membership product sales (the lease program, credentials). You will report to the COO and manage three reports and an additional four indirect reports. You will build upon our success in working with membership and our supplier partners, strengthen our strategic relationships with our current supplier partners, and attract new supplier partners.
The NAA Education Conference & Exposition attendance numbers have doubled since 2010. We anticipate continued robust growth in the coming years for our members, for our sponsors, and for our staff. Our current annual budget exceeds $30 million, with about a third ($10 million) coming from advertising, sponsorships, and exhibit booth sales. Our three main events are supported by more than 40 sponsors and 550 exhibiting companies, with 450 companies exhibiting at the NAA Education Conference & Exposition every June. We have 120 advertisers for Units Magazine, NAA digital newsletters, and NAA website advertisers. Approximately 25 companies sponsor, advertise, and exhibit – and 41 of our supplier partner companies contribute $50K - $500K annually. In 2017, NAA implemented an Alliance Partner program which provides companies year-round recognition and engagement opportunities.
This is not a behind-the-desk job. Visiting NAA’s current and potential stakeholders will be a necessity in order to understand the needs of key decision makers and to craft winning partnerships that deliver real, sustained value. Through these key relationships, you will continue to build out programs such as the Open Door Program, and propose and develop new products and services that better serve the needs of NAA’s key stakeholders.
For decades, the American Dream was to own a home. But over the past decade, a shift in that dream occurred, either by necessity or choice – with the apartment industry as one of the few beneficiaries of the economic and consumer downsizing that has occurred since 2008. Demand for apartments is at a multi-decade high, with more than four in ten Americans now renting.
As America's leading advocate for quality rental housing, NAA is at the intersection of several powerful demographic trends in our society. It has been projected that at least 4.6 million new apartments need to be built by 2030 to accommodate future growth. Not only is demand increasing in traditional markets, but new markets are emerging as Green Building initiatives flourish and colleges increasingly turn to public/private partnerships to meet the demand for student housing. NAA's mission is to serve the interests of multifamily housing owners, managers, developers, and suppliers, and to maintain a high level of professionalism in the multifamily housing industry in order to better serve the rental housing needs of the public.
